Jacksonville Ice Rink Brings Holiday Magic to Artist Square Downtown

This holiday season, downtown Jacksonville is buzzing with excitement thanks to the new Jacksonville Ice Rink at Artist Square — a project Miller Electric was proud to help bring to life through a fast-paced, collaborative effort. Designed as a temporary installation running from Thanksgiving through February 2026, the rink will later transform into a versatile event space for the City of Jacksonville, hosting outdoor markets, small festivals, and movie nights. This dual-purpose vision required careful planning and coordination to ensure the infrastructure could seamlessly support both seasonal and year-round activities.

Collaboration at Every Level
This project was a true team effort. Miller Electric partnered with the City of Jacksonville Parks Department, and JEA while internally leveraging expertise from our Transportation & Infrastructure Business Unit and our engineering. We also worked closely with Future Works Communication, whose assistance was critical during the installation phase.
Powering the Experience
One of the biggest challenges was delivering reliable power for the rink’s operations. Working with JEA, we extended power from existing utility poles at May Street and Peninsular Drive to a new panel location, where JEA installed a brand-new 750kVA transformer. This was no small task—it required shutting down the entire road, open-cutting to install conduit, and directional drilling to reach the transformer’s site.

Our primary scope included installing an 800A distribution panel and a custom cam lock enclosure to support the 200-ton temporary chiller that keeps the ice rink frozen. These critical components ensure the rink operates smoothly throughout the season.
Delivering on Time, Powering Community Connections
With just two months of planning and one month of field work, timing was everything — and missing the opening date would have meant missing the entire season. Thanks to the dedication and expertise of our team and partners, we delivered on time, earning an overwhelmingly positive public response. Projects like this showcase Miller Electric’s commitment to enhancing community spaces and supporting the City of Jacksonville’s vision for vibrant, engaging public areas. We are proud to have contributed to this exciting addition to downtown and look forward to seeing families and visitors enjoy the rink throughout the holidays.
