New Training Course a ‘Bootcamp’ For Entry-Level Electricians

by | Jan 19, 2022 | Company Updates

When hired to be a part of the Miller team, our newest electricians are given the support and training needed to hit the ground running. A new Construction Wireman Bootcamp is just an extra tool in that toolbox.

The CW Bootcamp was created to give extra training to our entry-level employees to make them safer and more productive. Besides lessons on safety, equipment, and hands-on conduit bending, a personal trainer presented on ergonomics, nutrition, exercise, and living a healthy lifestyle.

The three-day course had hands-on exercises for properly lifting common items in the field such as conduit, transformers, and ladders and how to do it without hurting themselves. It also included instruction for lifting heavier objects as a team.

The kickoff Bootcamp received positive feedback from participants who expressed gratitude for the effort to make them feel safer, included, and more knowledgeable.

The curriculum included:

Day 1

* Miller Safety policy and expectations, stressing the impact of injuries
* Milwaukee Tools presentation

* Explanation of the ETA apprenticeship program and career path along with a tour of the classrooms and labs

Day 2

* Fall protection and lift certification

* Miller swag raffle

Day 3

* 1/2 Day – Ergonomics – Hands-on proper lifting techniques and wellness seminar by a personal trainer

* 1/2 Day – Tool & Material recognition and hands-on conduit bending practice

The next scheduled Bootcamp is February 1-3.
