Brent T. Zimmerman is General Counsel and Assistant Secretary of Miller Electric Company. Prior to joining Miller Electric Company on January 1, 2017, Mr. Zimmerman gained experience in private practice with firms ranging in size from a large, full-service international law firm to a Jacksonville-based construction litigation boutique law firm. Mr. Zimmerman is Board Certified in Construction Law by The Florida Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization and Education, which signifies his demonstrated expertise in this practice area. Mr. Zimmerman is also AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell, recognized by his peers as having the highest level of ethical standards and professional ability.
Born in Columbia, Missouri, Mr. Zimmerman grew up in six different states on both coasts and in between. Upon graduation from The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Zimmerman enrolled at the University of Florida where he began his undergraduate education pursuing a degree in architecture. In his studies, Mr. Zimmerman developed an understanding of the construction design process and the vocabulary necessary to understand complex construction issues. Although he eventually changed course, earning a degree in finance, Mr. Zimmerman’s career path subsequently brought him back to the construction industry after graduating with his Juris Doctor from The Florida State University College of Law.
Throughout his legal career, Mr. Zimmerman has devoted much of his practice to construction law and litigation. Prior to coming in house for Miller Electric Company, Mr. Zimmerman represented owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers and sureties in state and federal courts and before arbitration panels. Mr. Zimmerman has also represented clients in licensing disputes in front of regulatory boards and in bid protests for government procurement contracts. On the transactional side of construction law, Mr. Zimmerman has drafted, revised and negotiated construction contracts on behalf of clients ranging in size from small residential projects to large, international industrial projects in excess of $100 Million.Back to Leadership
