Miller Electric: Improving the Environment

Twenty Project Managers from Jacksonville, Birmingham, Ft Lauderdale, Charlotte and Atlanta took part in a 12 hour training program as part of a certification preparation effort. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is becoming a hot issue in building construction. Many owners are attempting to get their projects LEED certified which gives points for improving water efficiency and energy use, improving air quality and using materials and resources that are environmentally friendly such as recycled construction materials or using native plants obtained locally. LEED also encourages minimum site disturbance to maintain natural habitats, using "cooler" outdoor materials that reflects solar heat, locating projects closer to mass transit, reducing potable water use and promotes strict lighting and building systems management controls.
This training program was brought to us by our educational partners at the University of North Florida and Breaking Ground Educational Services.
